Drinking for a Cause

First, many thanks to DCist.com for posting information about the Breadline Bar Crawl. Despite any editorial reservations they may have about the location of the Crawl, we are big fans DCist and are very appreciative for the publicity.

Now on to some great news. We are certainly aware of that fact that while being laid off is not fun, it pales in comparison to what some people in DC have to go through every day of their lives. To that end, we have chosen to donate a portion the of the proceeds from the Breadline Bar Crawl to Central Union Mission. Central Union Mission provides shelter, food, education, and other vital services to the less fortunate in the DC area and relies on the support of donors to provide all of its services free of charge.

So now your Friday afternoon of drinking will have a purpose. For those of you who are employed, just tell that to your boss when you call in sick or skip out of the office early. If he/she doesn't agree, then he/she is a horrible, horrible person.

The New Deal

You know what sucks? Getting laid off during the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression.

You know what's awesome? Drinking on a weekday afternoon.

So why not combine the highs and lows of life by joining us on Friday April 17 for the first, and hopefully only, Breadline Bar Crawl. This idea was hatched over several Miller Lites on a Wednesday afternoon by two recently laid off attorneys as a means to gather as many unemployed folks in the DC area for an afternoon (and evening) of cheap beer and camaraderie.

Here's the deal:

$10 gets you a wristband entitling you to some GREAT beer and liquor specials from 11 a.m. through 9 p.m. at the fine DC bars listed below. We'll start the day at the Front Page in Dupont Circle and then work our way south throughout the day. When traveling from bar to bar we'll be sure to wave to all those suckers with jobs cooped up in their offices. But this isn't just limited to the unemployed; anyone is free to join in and help stimulate the economy by patronizing local bars on a Friday afternoon.

***UPDATE***
We have chosen to donate a portion the of the proceeds from the Breadline Bar Crawl to Central Union Mission.
